Community Meeting with Afghan Refugees and Tilak Nagar Elders Council
Today, an important community meeting was held with Afghan refugees residing in the Tilak Nagar and Vikas Puri areas. The gathering centered on addressing the challenges faced by Afghan asylum seekers and refugees, including housing, education, medical assistance, and livelihood opportunities. A key outcome of the meeting was the selection of two women representatives—one from Tilak Nagar and Vikas Puri—through a transparent voting process by the women of these areas. In addition, a separate meeting was conducted with the Tilak Nagar Elders Council, led by Mr. Taj Mohammad and Mr. Sayed Saboor Mahdi, along with other council members. This meeting was attended by prominent leaders and representatives, including Mr. Mohammad Qais Malikzada, Chief of the Afghan Solidarity Committee (ASC); Mr. Yaqoub Ibrahimi Chief of the Elders Council Delhi NCR, Mr. Shamsuddin Qarizada, Deputy of ASC, Mr. Sikandar Malikzada Senior Advisor of ASC, Mrs. Shazia Kohistani, Head of the Afghan Women Association Delhi, and Mrs. Anisa Parwani Deputy of the Afghan Women Association. The collaborative discussions focused on identifying key community concerns and implementing strategies to improve the quality of life for Afghan refugees. The involvement of community elders and organizational leaders emphasized the importance of unity and collective leadership in addressing challenges and advocating for meaningful change. These meetings not only fostered hope among the residents of Tilak Nagar and Vikas Puri but also highlighted the power of community-driven initiatives in building a more secure and dignified future for Afghan refugees in India.
